Weekly Buzz "Week of December 16th"

Math- We will be finishing unit 4 this week.  The class will be getting lots of practice on their multiplication skills. Expect homework 3-4 days this week.

Science- We will continue with chapter 3 “Animal Habitats” this week.  We will be discussing grasslands, deserts, tundra, and forests.  

Michigan History- The study guide over chapter 2 “Michigan’s First People” came home last Thursday. Our test will be on Wednesday, December 18th.  Also just a reminder that you may want to start thinking about your child’s homework assignment that is due January 20th, 2014. We will begin our reports once we return from Christmas Break.  I will be asking the students this week what tribe they would like to research.  If you have not returned the blue note, which explains the homework portion of this assignment (the dwelling) I sent a new one home with your child last week.  I still have not received three of them.  

Spelling- No spelling this week with all the activities going on.

Reading- We will use this week to catch up on various items we have not gotten to

English/Writing- The class will finally begin writing their personal narrative on a special object.  They will be expected to use all the skills we have learned thus far in their paper.  Here are the items they will need to use awesome adjectives, correctly punctuated dialogue, good dialogue with feelings and emotions, linking words, voice, a beginning, middle, and end, interesting beginnings, strong endings.

Book It: December calendars will be due upon your child’s return in January. Keep reading!!!!!

Homework:  Thanks for getting on top of this with your child.  Homework continues to come back in a timely matter.

Christmas Party:  The party will be on Thursday starting around 1:00 PM.  Last Monday I sent a note home with your child if you signed up to donate an item for our party.  We also exchanged names a few weeks back.  The price limit for a gift is $3-$5. Don’t forget to have your child wear their Ugly Christmas sweater that day.

A Huge Thank you: Thanks to Mrs. Verberkmoes and the class for having a productive two days while I was gone.  I completely enjoyed the opportunity to see my daughter run against the top girls in the nation.  She came in 12th place out of over 400 11-12 year old girls.  The top 25 girls earned All American status.  The McBain community has been so supportive of her.  We feel very lucky to be a part of the McBain School and the community.

McBain Elementary Christmas Program:  This will be held on Monday, December 16th at 7:00pm in the high school
 Gym.  This involves students in 1st-through-4th grades.  Students will need to report to the multi-use room at 6:45pm, wearing their Sunday best!

Reward Afternoon:  The class has earned their first reward afternoon for their behavior.  We will be doing this on Thursday.  I would like the class to bring in board games from home.  We will also do a snack bar.  Your child is welcome to make a snack and bring it in to share with the class.  Please see the special note I sent home today which explains this more.

Our Christmas Party is quickly approaching.  We drew names last week for their exchange gift.  The price limit is $3-$5.  If this is a hardship for anyone please send me a note and other arrangements can be made.  It is also Ugly Sweater Day.

If you volunteered to send in an item for our party I will be sending a note home with your child this week.

FYI
Substitute Teacher Thursday and Friday:  On December 12-13 Mrs. Verberkmoes will be subbing for me.  I have been in contact with her and everything should run smoothly.  Please remind your child to do their best.  Thanks again for understanding.
